The Ketu North Municipal Assembly (KNMA) joined millions of Ghanaians across the county to contribute to planting 10 million trees to mark the Green Ghana day on the 9th of June, 2023. The activity was spear headed by The Municipal Department of Agriculture and the Development Planning Unit together with some officers from the forestry commission.
Staff of the Municipal Assembly with other non-decentralised Departments and Unit Heads numbering about 75, Assembly members, farmers associations and other individuals commemorated the day after it’s lunch by the president of the republic Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo under the theme; Our Forest, Our Health.
Trees were planted on the premises of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, Churches, Schools, Farms and along the principal streets of the towns in the municipality to protect the soil from environmental degradation which may be caused by erosion.
Present at the event were the Officers from different Departments including the Health Directorate, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Education Directorate and the Department of Agriculture. The Planning Officer in an address underscored the importance of socio-economic development of the nation and the sustainability of human efforts.
