ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SANITATION UNIT CONDUCTS TARGETED CLEANUP CAMPAIGN

In accordance with regulation 2.1 of the Ketu North District Assembly (Sanitation) Bye-laws, 2010, and as part of their routine inspection, the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with Community members and Zoomlion Company Limited, embarked on “Operation Clean Your Frontage Drains/Gutters” within Dzodze. This initiative formed part of a broader community-wide sanitation clean-up exercise aimed at enhancing environmental health and hygiene. The focus of the operation, which successfully concluded, was on desilting major gutters and drains within the Dzodze township to mitigate the risk of vector borne diseases, and to create a cleaner, healthier environment for residents.

The clean-up exercise, which took place from February 18 to 25th, saw active participation from community members, local authorities, and sanitation workers. The operation focused on the cleaning of key public spaces, encompassing the central market area, Begeme, Afetefe, Afeyime, the Dzodze Zongo Junction, and the route extending from the Dzodze Health Insurance Office to the Police Headquarters, alongside targeted residential areas. The desilting process involved the removal of accumulated silt, debris, and refuse from drainage channels, ensuring the free flow of water and preventing potential blockages.

Honorable Vincent Kofi Deanoo, the Assembly member for Afetefe, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean environment. He reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to prioritizing sanitation and public health, and urged residents to adopt sustainable waste management practices to complement the ongoing efforts. The clean-up exercise is expected to have a positive impact on the overall sanitation situation in the municipality, contributing to a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment for all.
