TOURIST SITE IDENTIFICATION AND PROMOTION VISIT BY THE DEVELOPMENT PLANNING SUB-COMMITTEE ON 4TH JULY 2023

Tourism is becoming one of the greatest economic activities that is helping many nations to develop and this sector cannot be ignored if our development focus/targets are to be achieved.

The municipal Assembly has decided to expand their revenue base and also to promote tourism within the municipality.

The motive behind the exercise was moved by the Chairman of the Development Planning Sub-Committee, Hon John Dordoe and seconded by the members of the committee to undertake this exercise and report to the General Assembly through EXECO for consideration and approval for development.

The Medium-Term Policy framework (2022-2025) has identified some key issues that confront the tourism sector with key policy objectives, strategies, implementation and collaboration as well as global linkages that needed to be pursued in order to be within the agenda of the government to promote the tourism activities to expand the economy to attract foreigner to invest in the local economy.

DEVELOPMENT DIMENSION OF THE MEDIUM TERM PLAN: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

FOCUS AREA: Tourism and Creative Industry Development

The intention of the exercise was to come out of the list of Sites and Festivals in the Ketu North Municipality to be considered by the Ghana Tourism Authority to be registered and recognized as Tourist sites and other attractive areas of interest.

KEY ISSUES THAT PROMPTED THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TOURISM SITES;

   The key issues that have confronted the sector that has necessitated the actions of the committee to undertake this exercise were as a result of:

  1. Poor tourism infrastructure and services
  2. Low involvement of communities in tourism development
  3. Poor accessible roads to tourist sites
  4. Inadequate data on tourist sites

PLACES OF VISIT:

  1. Adzoatsi Dam

This dam channel through some neighboring communities in Adzoatsi.

  • Dekpor Dam

This dam serve communities like Dekpor Horme,Dekpor Yia and Dekpor Dome.

  • Dzago pond/stream at Ehi-Dzagoto
  • Nyigbla Shrine at Afife:
  • Palm tree with 14 heads at Kasu
  • Ziorve at Afife
  • Sacred Heart Shrine at Dzodze Tornu

The team tried its best to get to the origin and the purpose for the establishment of the shrine proof futile. The leaders of the shrine led by Togbui Agamah has refused to tell us the story about the place for documentation.

The team was made to do some payment in the form of drinks and money before such activities can be performed. There was no preparation from the team to pay such requirement so we have to leave and never returned.
