KETU-NORTH MUNICIPAL CELEBRATES 2022 FARMERS’ DAY

This year’s Farmers’ Day was the 38th edition with the theme “Accelerating Agricultural development through value addition”.

In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Anthony Avorgbedor said the theme “Accelerating agricultural development through value addition” for this year’s celebration is appropriate, resonate with the times and refreshing. It is because the concept of value addition in agriculture presents a very good opportunity for additional revenue generation, job creation, foreign exchange earnings and effective post-harvest management.

The Member of Parliament for Ketu North Constituency, Hon. James Klutse Avedzi also gave a brief history of inception of the Farmers’ Day some 38 years ago. He said it was as a result of bush fire that destroyed food and cash crops in Ghana which brought about famine. He mentioned the award scheme was instituted by the late President J.J Rawlings. The first National Farmers’ Day was celebrated in the Eastern Region and later, regional and districts celebrations were added.
