As part of effort to improve the living standards of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Ketu North Municipality, the Management of the Ketu North Municipal Assembly procured and distributed varied items including a double door fridge with assorted drinks and bottled water, two electric corn mill and motor, thirty bags of cassava dough and provisions to Persons with Disabilities within the Municipality.
Speaking at a brief ceremony to present the items, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Avorgbedor indicated that the Assembly was committed to supporting and alleviating the economic hardship of PWDs and that the items were being donated to enable them set-up their own income generating activities to sustain their daily livelihoods.
He said, hitherto, the component of District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for Persons with Disabilities were given in cash to beneficiaries but noticed from routine monitoring of the usage of the funds that they were often misapplied. Hence, the Assembly has taken the decision to procure items to set them up in their chosen trades or businesses.
He admonished the beneficiaries to take good care of the items and use them for the intended purposes to improve their economic well-being. Speaking on the sideline, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) also admonished them not to sell the items and that if they do, the Assembly will cause their arrest and subsequently prosecute them. He urged them to take advantage of the business advisory services offered by the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) to improve on their trades or businesses.
Present at the ceremony were the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Avorgbedor, Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Jasper Adenyo, Social Service Chairman, Hon. Edward Seke, the Social Protection and Community Development Officer, Mr. Godwin Bless Awlime, Assistant Director I, Yanick Noah Agboado and Assistant Accountant, Mad. Veronica Agblor.
