The Disaster Management and Prevention Department aims to reduce, or avoid, the potential losses from hazards, assure prompt and appropriate assistance to victims of disaster, and achieve rapid and effective recovery. The department:
- Assists the planning and implementation of programmes to prevent and/or mitigate disaster in the Municipality within the policy framework of national policies.
- Assists and facilitates education and training of volunteers to fight fires, etc. and organizes public disaster education campaign programmes as part of its preventive role.
- Ensures that there is an adherence to rules in respect of private and public properties to ensure adequate protection against disaster.
