OCP, a Fertilizer Company as a way of supporting Agriculture productivity undertook a free soil test for selected farmers in the Municipality with support from the AEAs .The soil sampling was done to ascertain the nutrient content of the soil in 12 Communities which includes Penyi Hattah, Akpatoeme, Penyi Yorkoe, Tsiaveme, Kave, Deme, Devego, Klenormadi, Ehi, Agorvega, Ohawu and Ewulogui. After the soil test, farmers were invited to a durbar were results of the test were explain to them with the appropriate recommendations. In attendance at the Durbar were Lovelace Kudoto (Agric. Director), Prosper Bakudie (Extension Officer), Amevor Daniel (Agric. M.I.S. Officer), Azaglo Daniel (AEA), Gorni Cornellius (AEA), Dexo Selorm (AEA), Yaw Opoku and Mr. Emmanuel of OCP.
The OCP team revealed that from the findings, the major soil nutrient, Nitrogen was highly deficit in most maize growing areas but lower in rice growing areas, also Potassium and Phosphorous as well as the micro nutrients were largely low across the Municipality. The OCP officials urged the farmers to use the blend fertilizers based on the kind of nutrient in deficit. Mr. Lovelace Kudoto, the Agric. Director, thanked the team for their presence and their work and appealed to them to set up satellite centers to aid farmers get access to their affordable soil testing.
