MOTORCYCLE RIDERS IN THE KETU MUNICIPALITY SENSITIZED ON ROAD SAFETY

Motor riders in the Ketu North Municipality have been sensitized on road safety measures as part of efforts to curb road fatalities across the Municipality.

The event was organized by the Ketu North Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders.

The engagement meeting was to offer motor riders the opportunity to share ideas and be educated on how to comply with road traffic regulations.

Interacting with the riders on Thursday 29th June, 2023, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Avorgbedor said that the safety of any motorcycle rider was the ultimate concern of the Assembly and that it was part of the duties of the Assembly to ensure the security of residents of the Municipality. He advised them to be very responsible and patient when using the road. He also hinted them that the Assembly would soon embark in motor sticker operation in order to help identify motorbikes operating within the Municipality. This will ensure that the Assembly has a comprehensive database on all motorcycle riders in the Municipality.

Speaking at the event, the Station Officer for Dzodze Police Station, Inspector E.K Danyo admonished participants to adhere to road traffic regulations when plying the roads. He urged them to constantly use crash helmet since many deaths could have been prevented if riders had adhere to the practice. They were also cautioned against operating late into the night since people with criminal intentions often perpetuated their criminal activities at night. They were encouraged to be vigilant in order to notice any suspicious character within their respective communities and report them to the appropriate security agencies. This was after they were taken through Road Traffic Regulations.

Mr. Believe, a participant who spoke on behalf of the motorcycle riders said they were very happy with the meeting and that they hope the Management of the Assembly will continue to engage them in these very important fora in order to ensure their safety and security as motorcycle riders.

Present at the meeting were the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Avorgbedor, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Jasper Adenyo, Assistant Director I, Mr. Yanick Noah Agboado, Assistant Director IIB, Miss. Gabriella Dopi Ketemepi and motor riders across the Municipality and their leadership.
